world cup (USA) air force 1
being the typical hypebeast, i next fiended for a pair of tiffanys. i did everything i could - ebay, forums, etc. but being a relatively new guy to sneaker collecting, i couldn't bear to drop over $300 for a pair of shoes. i mean, come on! as a replacement, i got these instead:
untiffany dunks
glad i did, but 18 months down the road, these don't see sunlight anymore. but what great memories
feb 2007 - more air force ones after that:
basic air force 1
stussy "leon" court force
nordic pack air stabs
supreme air force 1
star premiums
euro cliches. first time i saw these on the shelves, i was stunned. a beautiful pair with gumsoles, suede, and lasered bits. pity they only had a us11 left. a whole size too big since classic SBs fit typically bigger by a half size. still, didn't stop me from buying them. wore them for 2 months straight, and then as i bought more shoes, i left them aside. i still like them a lot; pity i don't have much to match it with.
cliche sb classic
you can tell that at this point, i was just getting everything. typical for most people new to this
some pairs i still like to this day, some i don't wear anymore.
so one night, me and my friend (the same guy who started my habit), we're talking about sneakers, and we decide to spend money on some collectibles, instead of just randoms. that's when i start spending my wages on sneakers. some of my lowest points in my life. it was just hypebeast dot com everyday. we just kept scouring the internet for #$#! to buy...
huf quakes, 2nd pair basic white/white, invisible woman, '06 halloween
black undftd air force 1
hater and hype: chamber of fear series air force 1
babybear (3 bears pack) sb. now, there is a story behind these - i used this particular pair of sneakers as a pick-up line. i was at a friend's house-party and when she walked up, i told her to pick a pair of sneakers off the solebox website. i told her i'd buy them, and wear them out for lucnh with her as soon as i got them. we've been together 16 months now
air force 1 supremes. the first time these visible ait units dropped, we knew we had to get them. this one came all the way from germany.
you will notice two different backgrounds at this point. this is when half my collection was with me in my house, and the other half was at my girl's place. my girl was in the same city as my friend, so i'd take a train down every friday to spend weekends there. the train was a good 45 minutes.
as the story goes, my and my mate decided to get some sneakers to resell. trust me. every new sneakerhead gets that ambition as well. little did we know that buying shoes at UK retail plus tax didn't give us much room for profit...
lebron supreme air force 1
these HUF dunks have a story behind them as we finally found out... notice the variations in cement print between the left and right shoe? this is due to both side being manufactured in different years. quite rare to see a mismatched pair like this.
'07 af1 high white/white
amaire(sp?) air force 1
acu x nike clot footscape woven
most of the crap we bought didn't really sell. and when it did, we made very little out of it. so we decided to stop wasting time, and start getting our personal grails:
year of the dog air force 1
undftd purple/black air force 1
ueno "sakura" air force 1
invisible woman air force 1
it had been 6 months since i started collecting sneakers and frankly, at this point.. i was sick and tired of af1s. my mate still loved them, but i decided to move on and get only SBs. i would never get a pair of tiffanys though. i swore off those things. i did however get a pair of those canvas af1s. clean.
medicom 3, lucky cat sb
c&k (euro exclusive) sb
mf doom sb - again, these are from germany (much thanks to solebox and hikmet!). these were the last pair i bought before i had to move 300 miles to a new home in the UK. was not easy to transport all those shoes about... but i managed eventually.
you can see my blooming obsession with use of 3M in sneakers...
june 2007 - moved into a new home, and i got these off footpatrol. several months later, footpatrol was no more
canvas supreme air force 1
what the dunk sb
august 2007; i moved back to asia. cheap retail prices on shoes meant i went absolutely berserk...
royalefam sbtg sb
brut high sb
phillippines edition air force 1
atmos airmax 1 - i kept kicking myself for not buying them at £80 from size? UK. imagine how happy i was when i came back and bought them, DS for £60 ($120usd)!
broader blues sb (cheaper than retail - $60usd). suede, gumsoles, no need to think about it brah!
stussy "cherry" sb
this is also when i started getting into airmaxes... i also had a permanent job, which made sneaker collecting a lot easier than before...
december 2007 - southeast asia is introduced to one of the finest sneaker boutiques in the region. they bring in tier 0, and heads here whoop for joy!
huf quakes airmax 1
january 2008 - i get one of my grails after months for searching. together with the heinekens...
supreme black sb
heineken sb
feb 2008 - dave white comes to KL for the year of the dunk. met up with the man and got my pair of vintage dunks signed.
vintage dunk
skate or die sb (best gold box imo - but never worn).
kabutomushi airmax 1 - i had been waiting for these for ages and ages! first am1 supremes! super comfy, but pity they crease like a beeyotch!
slim shady air bursts. aaah, my first transaction on NT
i fell in love
with the beautiful grey suede, 3M bits on the lacejewel.... HUUUGE air unit!
may 2008: more and more air maxes. only thing i was really looking to buy at this point... ironic that i bought a pair of am90s since i had always hated the silouette of it. always looked too... chunky. but with the right colourways... WOW!
vivid blue airmax 90
beast mode? naw, one pair was a surprise for the gf in a us6, the other was us10.5 and i didn't have to queue. yep, massive beasting for these here. queues and all that jazz. there is only one major SB store in KL.
lobster sb
piet mondrian sb (didn't like it at first, then liked it, then didn't like it, but eventually bought it LOL).
june 2008:
my girlfriend decided to surprise me by paying for these. i love them; 3M all around - what's not to like?
3M snake co.jp air force 1
i've been collecting for a year and a half now, and i've become more open to non-nikes. in fact, i start to buy sneakers for the gf. i also start to (for lack of better words) invest in the future...
shrek dunk low (GS)
shrek mids (TD - for toddlers)
aug 2008 - one of the most hyped new balances drops in asia:
concepts tannery and pigeon NB (576 and 575 respectively).
yeah, those 3M bits were just too much for me
only 12 pairs reached our shoes, and 4 were reserved for family and friends. there was a balloting system for these, but i didn't get picked. you won't believe what friends are for, though. resell to me? naw man - he gave them to me.
buzz lightyear vandal low - it is official, i am now collecting baby sized shoes as well
sept 2008
infrared airmax 90; bought off kix-files, and had defects. they great guys from there offered to replace it, and paid for shipping both ways
good sneaker karma, just like i said!
....
and i hate to end abruptly, but this is where i am now. 18 months of sneaker collecting. i've slowed down a lot from when i was a student (i think) averaging about a pair a month nowadays. all my shoes are us10.5, us10, or us11 - in that order exactly. everything i've bought above is in chronological order. in fact, i don't even have all my shoes with me right now. some are still in the UK, some have been shipped to melbourne where my family is, and most are with me here in asia.
maybe one day when i get all my
shoes together, i'll take a really complete picture.
i did learn one thing from all this though...
i'll never get all the shoes i want.
edit: check out the following pages; i've updated accordingly.
no
longer 18 months now...
