It was a good book and movie but not a masterpiece. The only masterpieces are Saving Private Ryan, Forest Gump, and Lord of the rings.
I didnt have a watch so I took time... And then format it

The cinematography was amazing. Really good movie, but yeah I was a big fan of Michael Clayton. I actually watched Clayton 3x. I was never a fan of Clooney
until I saw that flick. But back to Into The Wild, it is one of those movies that sticks in your head.

I read the book a while ago and hated it. The movie is always on TV now but I have no intention on seeing it. Micheal Clayton the movie > Into The Wild the
book.

There are MANY more "powerful" movies out there. But what do you mean by powerful, I'm curious. Like the story itself had the huge impact on you?
Or you are just amazed at how well done you feel the movie is? To me powerful means that the movie either changes the way you see perceive world (which is very
rare) or you just can't get it out of your head for a number of reasons (excellent acting, ambiguous scenes, how it was shot, ending, story itself etc.)
If I remember correctly it wasn't nominated because the common opinion was that sean penn didn't do anything special as a director. |

DubA169 wrote:That's what makes it powerful. This was a guy who left his corrupt, conformist world to go out on his own and experience life from different perspectives. From being a hippy, to a construction worker, to a McDonald's cook, to being one with nature, he did it all to find out the true meaning of happiness. Can you name a few movies more powerful? Only ones that come to my mind are Sleepers and Schindler's List. |

The book is much better than the movie in my opinion. It adds a lot more complexity to McCandless which is important because, in reality, he is a polarizing
figure.

i couldn't believe it was based on a true story... anyway he had his whole life ahead of him, he had the money, a well to do family, good grades.... yet he wanted to do a lil soul searching and ended up eating some poisonous berries. good movie nonetheless
I go from Vancity to Seattle, Honolulu to Hong Kong, from Hong Kong I'll be f#*@*! long gone.

Potentially my favorite movie of all-time.
There is a great deal of nonsense in this thread. I've read essentially every piece of material on Christopher McCandless that exists, but I don't want to spoil the book or film for anybody that may (and should) be curious about them. The book is much better than the movie in my opinion. It adds a lot more complexity to McCandless which is important because, in reality, he is a polarizing figure.Definitely. |

The worst thing I could have ever done is be the one non-rich kid in the boarding school english class discussing this book.
My whole case was that this kid could have found himself in way more constructive way, and through throwing away all the advantages he had just to die in some abandoned bus in the woods he just proved that he was an over-priveleged ingrate who couldn't take care of himself, adjust to the world around him without losing his weak mind, or even think about the future. Didn't help that I was the only black kid, either. I just don't be running in the woods whenever i'm going through something and I would never hitch hike.

well I'll agree with shindlers list and the first half of sleepers. a clockwork orange- (treating criminality as a pandemic, what are the limits to "curing" criminality, is it morally right to force feed change to an evil person, the brutality of many scenes, the music. Book is even more messed up with an entirley different ending 2001: A Space Odyssey- ( I can't summarize why but it had a real profound affect on me in a few sentances. I once wrote a 15 page paper on it in college haha) Chinatown- (one of the greatest endings of all time can't go into it anymore cause I would ruin the movie if you havn't seen it) Blade Runner: the directors cut (no voice overs)- (what makes someone human, if you have fear of death and the ability to love and hate isn't that enough? When does artificial intelligence become "real" intelligence, commentary on immortality, treating beings with artificial intelligence as a sub-standard race) The Tenant- one of the best psycological thrillers I've ever seen. Also on eof the most ambiguous. I only saw this a month ago, it really bugs me out. Roman Polanski is out of his mind. Rosemary's baby- (once again Roman polanski is out of his mind, incredible psycological thriller. What is real and what is fake? did they drug her? Is there a real cult or just a bunch of sick people doing very immoral things? Great acting Donnie Darko- religion, time travel, ethics, sacrafice, love and a giant bunny... What else could you ask for? saving private ryan and platoon (most realistic portrays of war, very differant movies) life is beautiful- the mixture of comedy and utter sadness in a holocaust tale city of god- what a beautiful yet ugly film |
