Have some free time to kill this afternoon for once, figured I might as well go in on the NFL and NBA. Feel free to disagree because I like a good argument as
long as you know what you're talking about.
Just gonna go over the first-round.
Here we go:
1) LAC- Griffin
A- : Obvious pick and couldn't really go wrong. Traded Randolph in another good move but still have a bit of a jam on the roster. Are there enough shots for everybody (Baron, Gordon, Thornton, Griffin, etc.)?
I would hold onto Kaman and move Camby. Plus LAC got Jordan waiting in the wings.
2) Memphis- Thabeet
C+ : Not as good a prospect as Oden IMO. Very under-developed offensive game and still raw as a basketball player. Big vote of confidence for Conley but is that the right move? Would have liked to see Rubio or Evans here, even trading back perhaps.
3) OKC- Harden
B+ : Westbrook/Harden/Durant/Green/Kristic looks like a solid starting 5 to me. OKC clearly believes in Westbrook at the point and they get a excellent scorer who can slash and create for others. We will see if it was his supporting cast to blame at ASU.
4) SAC- Evans
B- : Seems like the guy they wanted. Over Rubio though? Might be questionable. Evans is still under-experienced running the point. Needs more work on his jumpshot as well. Decent core for the Kings with Hawes, Thompson, Martin, and Greene.
5) Minny- Rubio
A- : More of an investment than anything. Value is great but Rubio appears to be a trade asset for the near future...announced he's staying in Spain so will Minnesota jump at the best offer? Washington loses out the most settling for Foye/Miller. Weak class to some but the Wizards still undervalued their 5th overall pick.
6) Minny- Flynn
B : Got their insurance at PG with Rubio's unpredictability. Definitely high for Flynn but should pan out to be more than a solid starter in the league.
7) GS- Steph Curry
C : A piece for Amare possibly but way too high for this kid. I believe Curry is way overhyped and will be a better version of Gibson/Eddie House in the NBA. Could have taken DeRozan or Jennings instead.
NYK- Hill
B : Good value as a consolation prize for losing Curry. Hill will be a lot better than Frye that's for sure. Still inexperienced and will need time to develop.
9) Toronto- DeRozan
A- : Strong value once again. Excels at driving to the basket but needs lots of work on his jumper. Came on strong late in the season at USC and will be ready to contribute off the bench early on.
10) MIL- Jennings
C+ : Hard to predict Jennings' future but kid definitely has bundles of confidence. What do the Bucks do with Sessions/Ridnour? Question marks surrounding how Brandon will get along with Coach Skiles.
11) NJ- Terrence Williams
A- : One of my favorite players in the entire draft. Can do it all on the court but needs to develop a "killer instinct" to become an elite player. The Nets are doing a great job of setting themselves up for the future: Lopez, CDR, Devin Harris, Lee, Yi, and now T-Will.
12) Charlotte- Henderson
C : Do not like this pick. I've got Ellington ranked over him...how much will athleticism translate in a league full of tremendous athletes? I like Clark and Holiday at this point more. Charlotte's future looks messy.
13) Indiana- Hansbrough
D : Biggest reach of the draft. Hansbrough is scrappy and should be a solid role player in the league, but with the 13th overall pick? Come on...can't do that with Clark, Daye, and Johnson still available.
14) PHX- Clark
B : Once a top 10 lock, Clark showed weaknesses in his game this past year at Louisville. Still has tremendous talent for his height and can handle/pass the rock very well. A Boris Diaw-replacement of sorts to help run the offense.
15) DET- Daye
B- : Potential is the key word. Daye will be a project and has the opportunity to learn behind Prince. Should spend time in the weight room adding bulk to his skinny frame.
16) CHI- James Johnson
B : Like this kid's game. Showed out at Wake this past year on both sides of the floor. Chicago needs to package some of their young talent for a bonafide superstar.
17) Philly- Holiday
B+ : Sixers now have Miller's replacement but Holiday is two years away from contributing consistently. Collison did take away from some of his development at UCLA.
18) Denver- Lawson
C+ : Will be groomed behind Billups. Needs to work on his jumpshot from day one much like Rondo. Speed kills and Ty Lawson can be a poor man's TP9/Devin Harris if he works on his game.
19) ATL- Teague
C : Can be explosive but there are height concerns for the 2 and ball-handling question marks at the point. Would have benefited from another year in school. Like Maynor over Teague at this point in time.
20) Utah- Maynor
B- : Solid pick. Strong leadership skills, good height, and decision-making is NBA ready. Upgrade over Knight/Price behind Deron Williams. Real question for Utah is what to do with Millsap and Boozer.
21) NO- Collison
C- : Could have went another direction. Throughout the years Collison has shown weaknesses in various aspects of his game. I'm concerned that Collison will not experience success in the NBA.
22) Portland- Claver
C+ : Typical Portland pick storing an international player. Like that they didn't reach but took a project instead. Losing out on Hedo definitely hurts while the Blazers explore other off-season options.
23) SAC- Casspi
C : Second first-rounder for the Kings. Time will tell with this international prospect. Good amount of risk with this pick. What about Blair or Ellington here?
24) OKC- Mullens
C+ : Has talent but will need A LOT of time. Koufos was the better prospect, however, Mullens can develop into a solid role player off the bench in the long-term future.
25) Dallas- Beaubois
C+ : Not too shabby for the late-first round. Can eventually be a sufficient backup PG for the Mavs.
26) CHI- Gibson
C : Missed on Blair regardless of the concern over his knees. Gibson needs to get stronger to succeed in the NBA. Can't rely on mid-range jumpers at the next level either which means work on his inside post game.
27) Memphis- Carroll
C- : Blair?? Or how about Summers...Carroll will be a lifetime backup at best and the Grizzlies could have done better.
28) Minny- Ellington
A- : Love this pick. As mentioned, I prefer Ellington over Henderson and think he'll have the better career. Can drive the ball but doesn't rely on it like Henderson. Sound jump shot and turned it on when it counted in the NCAA tournament.
29) NYK- Toney Douglas
C- : Paid $3 million for this pick and then selected Douglas over Taylor, Summers, and Meeks. Another bad move by the Knicks.
30) CLE- Christian Eyenga
INC : Honestly don't know anything about this dude
Not gonna lie.
Best second-round picks:
Taylor
Cunningham
Summers
Young
Blair
Derrick Brown
Meeks
Chase
Danny Green
Patty Mills
Lester Hudson
Good call, kix.
